My journey with technology started with a £3 cheap white handheld transistor radio bought in a souvenir shop while on holiday.  Literally.  I remember standing on the beach tuning in local radio stations and thinking I had arrived in life!  Embarrassing as it sounds now, that tiny radio sparked a strong interest in radio technology, which then led to audio equipment which  then led to the first purchase of a Gateway PC running the mighty Windows 98.  Once that big Gateway arrived, that was it!  My interests expanded further and further.   As a 12 year old I remember saving and saving for the next purchase. My ‘next upgrades’ were all researched to exhaustion and then when the equipment eventually arrived it would have to be ‘demoed’ to anyone who would care to watch, friends, cousins, neighbours and parents.

That childhood fascination  with ‘things that plug in’ has never faded; it just got stronger. Over the years, I’ve lived through the rise of PCs, watched laptops shrink from expensive heavy bricks, to netbooks and now Ultrabooks.  Printers have developed from expensive niche machines to household items. The biggest change has been the internet.  I remember being randomly chosen by AOL to trial their ‘unlimited dial up internet’ for £19.99 monthly and feeling like I had won the lottery!  Again, slightly embarrassing to think back on!

That childhood fascination never faded – it just evolved. Over the years, I’ve lived through the rise of personal computers, watched laptops shrink from briefcase-sized behemoths to sleek ultrabooks, witnessed printers transform from noisy dot-matrix monsters to whisper-quiet photo labs, and marveled as digital assistants went from science fiction to everyday reality. Each technological leap has been like watching magic unfold.

What started as a hobby of constantly researching, comparing, and upgrading my own gear naturally grew into something more. First it was friends and family began asking for advice, then neighbours, then ‘friends of friends’ and so it went on: “Which laptop should I buy?” “Is this NAS worth the investment?” “What’s the deal with laser engravers?” I found myself not just answering these questions, but genuinely enjoying the process of diving deep into specifications, real-world testing, and translating technical jargon into plain English.

That’s where Top3Review was born. Every review you’ll find here comes from hands-on experience and genuine curiosity. Whether it’s a budget laptop that surprised me with its performance, a desktop build that pushed the boundaries of what’s possible, or a quirky piece of tech that solves a problem you didn’t know you had, I approach each review with the same enthusiasm I had as a kid unwrapping my first computer.
I believe technology should make our lives better, not more complicated. That’s why I focus on practical insights alongside technical specifications – because knowing a device has impressive specs on paper is one thing, but understanding how it performs in your daily routine is what really matters.
